Project Overview

Banyan combines financial and technological innovations to accelerate the deployment of solar, wind, and other critical infrastructure around the globe. The platform uses blockchain-based, smart contract technology to oversee and automate the complex and time consuming contractual management of these small distributed assets. The solution de-risks these assets for lenders, decreases overhead costs, and increases the ability to refinance these projects at a lower cost of capital. This gets more cleantech installed faster at lower costs.

Role

I worked primarily on the UI and UX for the Banyan platform. My primary responsibilities included researching and developing new features, creating workflows, wireframes, and mockups. This required me to work closely with the product and executive team to help establish company objectives and timelines by assisting in bi-weekly and quarterly sprint planning.

Problem

Infrastructure loans have financial and operating covenants that require on-going oversight by the lender for the 20+ year term. With banks relying on spreadsheets, emails, PDF reports, and manual oversight, small systems become inefficient to manage. This results in decreased transparency, increased costs, and risk and limits the ability to originate and securitize these loans. Banyan set out to automate and simplify this process by providing a platform that gives visibility to all stakeholders involved in the project.

Solution

The solution to the problem defined above was to create a digital platform that all stakeholders in a project could utilize to increase efficiency and transparency in the lifecycle of a loan. Banyan accomplished this by aggregating data from multiple sources, automating contractual compliance, and maintaining an immutable record of events.

Design

Due to my commitment to confidentiality, I cannot share the official workflows, wireframes, and mockups of the platform. However, I can share redacted versions of what the platform looked like when I joined the company and a version of what it looked like at my departure.

The first image is what the platform UI looked like with my involvement. The second image is the platform UI at the time I joined the company.
